The Łódź Film School is the main film school in the country. The school was founded in March 1948 in Łódź, the country's second-largest city, and initially was meant to transfer to Warsaw after the reconstruction of the capital, following its destruction during the Second World War. Finally, the school stayed in Łódź and has become one of the most important cinema schools in Europe. Its first director was director and playwright Leon Schiller.
