Thanks to the stop-motion animation of the characters and sets, the concrete and tangible nature of the soundscape is delicately brought to the fore. Every sound emitted by a particular object resonates, finding its echo in the volume of the object we are shown. From the very first shots, the eye is delighted by the sets and the everyday objects that inhabit them, but when they come to life through sound, it is to our ears that they speak, and their presence then becomes all the more palpable. In this respect, Rolih’s brilliant invention, the sound piano, and the way Simon uses it feel like a grand finale. Lola and her sound piano invite us to look closely at others in order to understand them better and to connect with them. The simplicity of the storyline, the gentleness of the characters and the delicacy of the stop-motion animation make this a work of great sensitivity, as cinematic as it is human.""
