For three months, Raymond Depardon filmed cases in the 10th chamber of the Paris Criminal Court that were, on the face of it, less spectacular than those dealt with in summary proceedings in Délits flagrants. From insulting police officers to drink driving, those facing justice are all filmed as if "laid bare" before the authority of the law. Depardon’s filming technique presents the daily routine of this justice system, made up of fragments of life, in an almost theatrical form, somewhere between comedy and intimate drama. The editing deliberately ends on a difficult case to resolve, leaving us pondering the strengths and limitations of our judicial system.
