Ivy, Karen and Christina have all left everything behind to lead a life of on the road crossing America by stowing away on freight trains. Becoming their travelling companion, the director films their quest for freedom and rebellion.
This Train I Ride follows three women in their journey across the United States. Of different ages and from different backgrounds, their common point is that they are stowaways on the immense freight trains which can spend days crossing deserted landscapes. These women are not fleeing from justice or need to hide. What they are escaping from is the weight of the narrow view of society. Being alone means finally being free and being yourself, finding yourself by appropriating a territory that they would not have been able to discover otherwise. Director Arno Bitschy literally jumped on the train himself, and takes us with him. Without information, context or any prior presentation, his camera respectfully follows these rebel women in need of freedom and anonymity.” (Gregory Coutaut; Le Polyester)
