In the tradition of Michael Powell's Peeping Tom, Tesis (Thesis) is a film which questions the audience on their visual curiosity and their taste for violence. For his first feature, Alejandro Amenábar also queries the responsibility of the filmmaker by placing the action at the heart of the institution where the foundations of cinema are learnt: the Faculty of Communication Sciences in Madrid. Tesis lays down the formal and thematic foundations of Amenábar's genre films: playing with the realism of the characters, he manipulates the spectator in a very Machiavellian way. The film also provides an opportunity to see Ana Torrent, 20 years after Carlos Saura's Cria Cuervos. It also revealed Fele Martínez and Eduardo Noriega.
