"We wanted to make a comedy horror film with zombies, mixing real social and human themes interwoven with the off the wall world of classic horror films. We wanted the combination of very concrete situations and amusing dialogues in a really terrifying setting..." (S. Pegg). By juxtaposing the codes of zombie films with the absurdity of English humour, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg pay a unique tribute to George Romero. Romero was so taken with the film that he offered Wright and Pegg a cameo role as zombies in Land of the Dead.
