Mustafa is 15. Everyone calls him Schizo, short for schizophrenic, though no one really knows if he's sick. His mother's boyfriend, who is always drunk, instructs Schizo to find amateur boxers for his illegal boxing matches. One day, one of them dies following a match, but not before asking Schizo to take his prize money to his wife and young son. Guka Omarova was born in Almaty in 1968. At 14, she was already acting in the films of Sergey Bodro who co-wrote Schizo. She worked in television as assistant director then, from 1988 to 1994, studied journalism. She went to the Almaty School of Fine Arts and graduated with a degree in documentary filmmaking. Between 1998 and 1999, she made various short films and documentaries: Ce cœur à moi, Le paysage des corps. Le projet d'argile and Capitaine Kat. She co-wrote Sisters with Sergey Bodrov who directed it. Guka Omarova has lived in Rotterdam since 2001. Schizo is her first feature film.
