Rumba
Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon et Bruno Romy

Fiona and Dom are crazy teachers of English and gymnastics in a rural school, and are very much in love. They share a passion for Latin dancing and take part in all the regional competitions at the weekend. One night, returning victorious from yet another competition, they swerve to avoid someone trying to commit suicide in the middle of the road and have an accident. Fiona loses a leg and Dom loses his memory, which makes their everyday lives much more complicated.

Rumba, like Abel and Gordon's other creations, is a confirmation of their style: a simple narrative in a performance focused on body language. "In our creations, there is always dance, we invent choreographies which are a blend of skill and humour" (Abel & Gordon), and a sense of self-mockery or parody, but laughing in empathy, in identification and complicity with the characters. "Our references are the clowns of silent film, those eccentric artists who could play on two planes: popular, funny, accessible film, and refined and inventive auteur cinema" (Abel & Gordon). On a brightly coloured set, these contemporary slapstick characters speak of a genuinely moving relationship to life.
