By observing cross-cultural writing workshops between Eurasian women and historians, the film traces migratory journeys and experiences of uprooting that are often overlooked. These women were born as a result of their fathers’ illegitimate presence in a colonized country and were forced to start a new life elsewhere, far from the places of their childhood. Displaced orphans, like sturdy leaves on a tree with roots that cannot be found, they were victims of political manipulation and grew up amid a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Back at the orphanage where they were placed upon their arrival in France, they are given the opportunity to tell their stories and continue to seek understanding.
