"For a long time war has been a leitmotiv in Godard's reflections on the image, from Vietnam to the conflict in the former Yugoslavia passing through the recurring memory of the Second World War and current affairs in the Middle East" (Julien Welter). Notre musique (Our Music) is a triptych. Firstly ten minutes in Hell, a mix of fictional drama and TV reports. Then an hour in Purgatory, a kaleidoscope of considerations on war and its aftermath. Finally ten minutes of Paradise, a sort of dreamlike post-face. "The theme, the motif, the matter of the film are torn from immediate history (our history): the war in Yugoslavia, the near past, under Godard, doesn't pass. [...] Notre musique looks at life on earth now, from the point of view of a post-mortem and high up, because hell, purgatory and paradise are not down here" (Olivier Séguret, Philippe Azoury)
