September 1940: Pétain’s regime takes hold. Henri Marre, 49, arrives in Vichy penniless, with no contacts, far from his wife and children. He sees the new administration as an opportunity to finally find the position he deserves. In his suitcase is his self-published political treatise, Notre Salut, in which he defends his patriotic convictions and his engineering methods. His credo: “gaining efficiency” to lift France out of its debacle. But perhaps Henri is trying, above all, to escape his own downfall…

Emmanuel Marre came to Angers in 2009 with his student film, Michel, co-directed with Antoine Russbach, which was selected for the competition. In 2012, he participated in the Ateliers d’Angers with his project Territoire. He returned to Angers in 2019 for his film D’un château l’autre (Plans suivants) and in 2022 for the premiere of his first feature film, Rien à foutre, directed with Julie Lecoustre and selected in 2021 for Critics’ Week at Cannes. His second feature film, Notre salut, was selected for competition at Cannes this year, where it won the Best Screenplay Award.
