These three short documentaries were made in New Guinea, during the months used finding locations for the film La Vallée, with Nestor Almendros and Bulle Ogier. Test shots of the film in preparation, such as the ritual of execution of the sweet potato pig, they illustrate the particular ceremonies of this distant region, which are taken up in the fiction feature La Vallée. They show a way of life in which the whole crew from the film were immersed. A very small team, made up of thirteen people, interpreters and technicians included, sharing the lives of the Papuans in New Guinea, particularly in the make-up ceremony, illustrated by the short film of the same name. Barbet Schroeder shows the cultural importance of music and the body decorations in this primitive community.
