Låt Den Rätte Komma In
Tomas Alfredson

Oskar is a fragile, outcast teenager. He is bullied by the other boys in his class, and often huddles in the snowy courtyard of the apartment building where he lives imagining scenes of revenge. When young Eli moves into the flat next door with her father, Oskar finally finds someone he can be friends with. Eli intrigues him, and her arrival in Stockholm coincides with a series of bloody murders and mysterious disappearances...

"I saw Dracula films when I was a child. But it wasn't a genre which had interested me before. The films I had made in the past were more black comedies. So I went off in search of a new world... And when you think about it, Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) has pure comic elements. They're not obvious at first sight, but there is a French expression to define this sort of humour which says that extremes meet." In this adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's best-seller, Tomas Alfredson goes beyond the usual clichés of vampire films, telling a tale of initiation swinging between romanticism and fear. "What struck me was the lack of sentimentalism in the story and the writing. I don't like emotional blackmail, I prefer to be moved by sort of intransigence synonymous with integrity" (T. Alfredson).
