Finished during Yilmaz Güney's second incarceration for a common law crime, Anxiety is the first of five films (along with The Suffering Ones, The Herd, The Enemy and The Way) all shot with the help of another director. Like the horse cab driver in Hope, the naïve worker in Anxiety embodies the anti-hero par excellence, thrust into the center of a subject matter dear to Güney: worker exploitation. "I wanted to talk about the condition of those who work the land and more particularly seasonal farm workers. The principal theme of Anxiety was: where must one look to find the solution? Is individualism one possibility?" (Yilmaz Gürney)
