"Originally there was a drawing made a long time ago. It showed a character who wanted to touch what was around him, but couldn't, and whose creative desire was at the same time a destructive desire, an ambivalence which came to the surface when I was a teenager. I found it very difficult to communicate with the rest of the world and my personality was nothing like the impression I gave: I found myself in the position of so many other teenagers in being unable to express what I was feeling... The way I grew up was fairly similar to Edward Scissorhands. It was very empty, without many emotions, without any passions and almost without any significant events or words to express them. For me there were other ways of expressing the inexpressible, such as fairy tales, graphic novels or animation" (T. Burton).
