"There were several things I wanted to transmit in this film. Firstly an immediate feeling: when we arrived in Sarajevo, we saw a town which bore witness to the extreme fragility of modernity. Its political status was that of an Eastern European city, but it was a modern city in a modern country. For the generation I belong to, which was born after the wars in Europe and the wars committed by European to their colonies, seeing a modern European city at war meant the crumbling of a certain number of values I'd been brought up in: values of progress, modernity and the peace that comes with them; seeing this city in chaos was utter dejection and the immediate feeling that everyone felt when we arrived" (Laurent Bécue-Renard).
