Alone with War
Seule avec la guerre
Danielle Arbid

Danielle Arbid goes through Beirut insistently asking disturbing questions. It is the year 2000. There was a war here, it lasted 15 years, from 1975 to 1989, but there are no monuments that show it existed. The word ‘war' has become taboo. Nobody wants to remember anything, as if nothing had happened...

Daniel Arbid films the vacuum and the chaos that war has left behind it in the Lebanon. "The people who carried it out are walking about unpunished and are still fantasising. Those who suffered from it are still trying difficultly to forget it. All in all, nobody has really settled their accounts with the past... Through this documentary I want to show the extent to which our lives have been blighted in the aftermath of this war. This film is an investigation, the testimony of a personal quest, a movement of attraction and repulsion towards my country and its macabre history. It is also the portrait of this critical phase of life after war, in Beirut, today" (Danielle Arbid).
