Un héros très discret is a reflection on lies and what could be built on lies in a confused and bewildered post-war France. To deal with the surprising story, Jacques Audiard uses a construction where archive footage and current interviews of people who came across the supposed Resistance hero. "The story of an imposter, the evolution of a man who fought in lies only. It's best to get it over with: there is nothing glorious, nothing epic in there. But that is the major attraction of the subject: following the rise of an ordinary man in extraordinary times, showing how a little scam is a perfect sample of the confusion of the period" (Jean-Claude Loiseau).
