Montreal, 1989. Litterature teacher Laurence Alia lives in perfect harmony with Fred, a director. The couple is in love, carefree and a bit out of the ordinary. One day their life together is turned upside-down when Laurence tells Fred that he wants to become a woman, which is deep down what he has always been. Fred is in shock, and distances herself for a while before finally accepting to support the love of her life in their metamorphosis.
Xavier Dolan
Xavier Dolan began his career as an actor at the age of 4. In 2009, at the Directors' Fortnight, Dolan became internationally famous with the première of his first feature J'ai tué ma mère (I Killed my Mother), which he wrote, directed, produced and where he played the lead role. He went on to make 7 features between 2010 and 2019. Les Amours Imaginaires (Heartbeats) and Laurence Anyways were screened in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and 2012 respectively. In 2013, Tom à la ferme (Tom at the Farm) won the international critics FIPRESCI prize at the Venice Mostra. In 2014, Mommy, his 5th feature, was equal winner of the Jury Prize in the official competition at the 67th Cannes Film Festival, and Juste la fin du monde (Just the End of the World), two years later, won the Grand Prix du Jury.
