For months Antoinette has been waiting for the summer and the promise of a week of romance with her lover, Vladimir. When he cancels their trip to go hiking in the Cévennes with his wife and daughter, Antoinette doesn't hesitate for a minute: she follows in his tracks! But when she arrives… no Vladimir – only Patrick, a headstrong donkey who will accompany her on her very singular adventure…

“Caroline Vignal's second film, 20 years after her first, Antoinette dans les Cévennes (My Donkey, My Lover and I) is freely inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's journal Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes. The famous Scottish writer and adventure went on the same trail, also to cure a broken heart. With the idea that ‘we are all travellers in the desert of this world' in search of happiness. (…) This generous and naïve woman is a wonderful character for an actress as gifted as Laure Calamy. She carries the whole weight of the film on her shoulders. Antoinette makes us laugh and cry, sometimes in the same scene. Like when she is talking to her donkey on the lonely tracks, recounting her turbulent love life. Without it becoming ridiculous.”
