After being sent to a refugee camp, Karin, a young Lithuanian, cannot leave post-war Italy. To be able to leave the camp, she mut marry Antonio, a young fisherman on the volcanic island of Stromboli. But life on the island soon become hell for her. In a hostile environment where she is up against both the language barrier and the violence of her husband, she decides to escape …
