Screenings : saturday 27 - 8:30 pm - Grand Théâtre
A little crow, with white plumage, is made fun and bullied by the other crows who are all black. He dreams of a paradise island where all the birds, in all their diversity, have their place. And what if this was a refuge for everyone?
“The theme of intolerance is as universal as it is timeless. By readapting Hans Christian Anderson's The Ugly Duckling (1842) to the community of crows, Croatian director Miran Miošić updates the story by giving it new perspectives. Here it is not by finding a new family that a child with differences discovers his place in society when they grow up.
When pollution disturbs the environment of all the birds, the white crow finds a wonderful new place to live for his community. In this way, the most marginalised character becomes a heroic figure because initially he is rejected and driven to see what is happening elsewhere. This anti-intolerance fable encourages everyone to accept their differences as a gift. From the homogeneity of the dark feathers of the crows, the animation evolves towards an explosion of colours evoking the beauty of a society where difference is seen as an asset.
The strength of this film is that it is both moving and able to transmit these messages without using words, thanks to an intelligent story served by colourful animation.” Benshi
