Thelma & Louise

Ridley Scott
1991 - United States / United Kingdom / France - 2h10

Screenings : wednesday 24 - 10:30 am - Pathé - 1
Two friends, Thelma and Louise, frustrated with their monotonous lives, one with her husband, the other her boyfriend, decide to go off for a weekend on the roads of Arkansas. During their first stop at a roadhouse bar, a tragic event happens changing the course of their lives forever.
Ridley Scott, at the height of his fame, was interested by the first screenplay of Callie Khouri (for which the San Antonio native would win and Oscar) because he felt he had never before seen a film so focused on female friendship. While the filming took place with perfect osmosis, nobody expected the violence of the reactions when the film was released in 1991. Splashed on the front page of The Times, the film was controversial and the emancipatory dimension of the two characters was seen by some as “an attack on men”. Over time, Thelma & Louise has become a cult road movie, joyful in its liberating momentum which contributed to questioning the role of women in genre films.
