Sandrine Veysset’s debut feature, Y aura-t-il de la neige à Noël ? (Will It Snow for Christmas?), uses a certain documentary-like realism to immerse the audience in the daily life of this family, showing the difficulty of farm work and a distinct way of thinking and behaving. Veysset drew inspiration from her own life to emphasise the film’s ‘real-life’ quality, lending it an autobiographical flavour. Dominique Reymond, an unassuming stage actress, exudes genuine inner strength in her portrayal of the mother. Admirably played by Daniel Duval, the father is a character who is both seductive and despicable, reminiscent of the terrifying adoptive father of the children in Charles Laughton’s magnificent The Night of the Hunter. Y aura-t-il de la neige à Noël ? is an unconventional masterpiece exploring a world rarely portrayed on screen, shown in its splendid 2K digitally restored version!"" (carlottafilms.com)
