For the first time in his career Blier puts all provocation to one side in favour of sensitivity and desire. The improbable couple of Depardieu and Balasko is a hymn to love, filmed using long sensual tracking shots accompanied by the music of Schubert, ideal for wounded hearts. "Trop belle pour toi (Too Beautiful for You) is the first time I worked on the essence of cinema, on rough material; a film not based on dialogues but on physical sensations. The film is very complex but is also the culmination of many experiences. In the film I harvested what I had sown in Buffet froid or Notre histoire (Our Story). You often find your best ideas in your failed films, thorns that end up by blossoming" (B. Blier).
