As the trial of Klaus Barbie is beginning, and on the eve of his mother's death, Victor breaks the silence he has kept on the deportation of his parents and reconnects with his Jewish origins. Above and beyond an evocation of the Shoah, this film reflects the universality of mother-son relationships.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Jérôme Clément, this film, directed by Amos Gitaï, tells the singular and painful story of the author's family. Gitaï's project was complex, as it combined actual, historical and fictional material. From the novel he decided to explore more specifically the theme of transmission of such a story within the family. The film's success comes from this powerful subject, which confronts the main character with deep existential questions and Gitaï's subtle directing, distilling the essence of the book and some large narrative blocks, and his return to the use of sequence shots.
