The third chapter in the famous Bread, Love and... trilogy, this episode differs from the previous two directed by Luigi Comencini with Sofia Loren replacing Gina Lollobrigida, the use of colour instead of black and white, and the Cinemascope format, while maintaining a certain narrative line (that of the Neapolitan farce) to the great delight of faithful fans. This comedy of manners, again dominated by the Italian matriarchy, is a sparkling illustration of this flourishing cinematographic period. Made in the same year as l segnodi Venere (The Sign of Venus) this film also uses the irresistible pair of Loren/De Sica, and gives us the classic scene of the sensual mambo performed by the shapely Sophia Loren.
