Fifteen year old Rachel is in love with Hervé, a young school boy. On the stairs of her apartment block they meet, kiss and get to know one and other. One night, Hervé asks her to run away with him to Normandy.

Frédéric Mermoud was born in Sion in 1969. After completing a degree in Litterature at the University of Geneva, he went on to graduate from the directing section of the ECAL film school. There, he directed several short fiction films (Son jour à elle in 1998 and Les Electrons in 1999) presented at numerous International film festivals and broadcast by Arte and TSR. In addition to this, he has shot commissioned documentary films. L'Escalier is his first short film since graduating.
