For his last film to date, Bertrand Blier comes back to a theme which he has explored several times already: death. Whether it is personified, like in Les Côtelettes (Catherine Hiegel), or in Buffet froid (Carole Bouquet), it lacks credibility. Keeping his taste for provocation and dark humour, he nuances his discourse with a feeling of gentleness: "Le Bruit des glaçons (The Clink of Ice Cubes) is my most uncluttered film. That is probably due to my age. To maturity. And more than the story of cancer, it was for the love scenes between Anne Alvaro and Jean Dujardinthat I made the film... When you have an incurable brain tumour, the full accomplishment of life is by definition in the arms of a woman. You look for the one who will close your eyes and she is not always the woman you thought it would be"(Bertrand Blier).
