1953 Fiction 12 min
The sketch film, made up of six stories, each by a leading Italian director, explores the different aspects of love in a city and also the precarious living conditions of young women at the time. Made in a direct style preparing the way for cinema-vérité, this collective film is the culmination and the end of authentic neorealism.

Produced by Marco Ferreri and supervised by Cesare Zavattini, the aim of this film was to be a journalistic investigation (as is the case for some other episodes such as LIzzani's L'amore si paga, where the theme is prostitution, or Tentato suicidio (When Love Fails) by Antonioni). Dino Risi's episode, Paradiso per tre ore (Paradise for Three Hours), is the most playful of them. He gives a gentle and ironic portrayal of the atmosphere of the local dances frequented by maids on holiday and soldiers on leave. Risi takes his indiscrete camera through the crowd in a popular dance hall filled with non-professional actors from Rome. Here there is a certain youth in search of oblivion and others, not so young, living by proxy, memories and reined-in desires...
