"In nome del popolo italiano (In the Name of the Italian People) stems from the observation of an economic-political reality and certain brave judges (belonging to the left-wing "Democratic Magistracy" movement) who investigated the fundamental problems of Italy: ecology and pollution. This gave rise to the idea of making a film about a judge who usually dealt with affairs which were minor nut nevertheless endangered the country's judicial system" (Dino Risi). This cruel film, disguised as a comedy, is a vicious criticism of the difficulties honest people have in a society where abuse, profit and manipulation are commonplace. Dino Risi's pessimism reaches its climax in this film.
