"From Walkover to Moonlighting, none of his films is like the previous one. Yet all are imbued with that same nervous energy which he employed in the ring as an amateur boxer, and which he now channels through a sense of direction of astonishing virtuosity. In Essential Killing, this is at its peak. Absolute formal radicalism is combined here with the breathless dynamism of a manhunt worthy of the finest Hollywood action films."
