"It's everyday science fiction that interests me. I wanted to go against the grain of Star Wars or Close Encounters of the Third. (...) If the idea upon which my film is based classifies my film as science fiction, I especially wanted to create a sense of strangeness within a Victorian setting. (...) I've always liked voice-overs. And I liked the idea of telling a story about someone who is himself filming a story. Moreover, it allowed me to give the film a nostalgic tone and a circular construction. The film thus recalls a present we never see." (B. Tavernier)
