Nariman Turebayev was born in 1970 in Jezkazgan, Kazakhstan. Between 1991 and 1996, he worked in a cooperative, before beginning his studies at The Kazakh Academy of Arts in 1996. In 1998, he was the assistant director for 1997 by Ardak Amirkulov, and Darejan Omirbaev's sur La Route in 2000. In the same year, he also directed Concours and Romantika. Antiromantika is his graduation film.
