"A scriptwriter for Thomas Vinterberg, Tobias Lindholm, has made his second feature, Hijacking. Shot partly with non-professional actors, Hijacking was filmed off the Kenyan coast over a three-week period, on a ship that had actually been attacked by pirates previously. To avoid any risk whatsoever in this dangerous region, the film crew had to be protected by armed guards. This tense atmosphere heightened the film’s oppressive feel, though this was counterbalanced by often daring directorial choices (many crisis situations unfold off-screen, whilst the suspense is built through long-distance telephone conversations)."
