Jane B. par Agnès V. (Jane B. by Agnès V.) is a cinema portrait where we discover Jane Birkin in all her forms, in all her states and in several seasons. Jane is herself but also others: Jane of Arc, Calamity Jane, Tarzan's Jane or Gainsbourg's. She changes faces and roles to have fun with Agnès, who turns around her, disguising her, proposing fictions or tributes.
As always with Agnès Varda, this film takes nothing from a pre-existing form. Jane B. par Agnès V. is a fragmented portrait of actress Jane Birkin, made up of interviews, reports on the places she loves and short fictions in which the actress plays unexpected roles with other actors. Agnès Varda also directs herself through a game of mirrors and an ongoing dialogue with the actress. “We played make believe to get to the truth”, she said. During the shoot, Jane Birkin suggested an idea for a fictional drama. Kung-Fu Master was born...
