In tribute to David Lynch, who passed away on January 15, 2025, and under the educational supervision of architect Charles Poulain and art and architecture critic Christophe Le Gac, two groups of students from the Design program at TALM-Angers were tasked with crystallizing the essence of David Lynch's cinema in a set design. Two sets were created: a “diner,” the quintessential Lynchian setting, and one of the cult scenes from Blue Velvet, where Frank visits Dorothy while she is with Jeffrey. The latter is forced to take refuge in the closet with louvered doors, becoming the voyeuristic viewer's accomplice. The result is a “voyeuristic” installation.
Located on the ground floor of the Convention Center, these spaces will be accessible to Festival audiences. Feel free to discover them by sitting down to dinner or slipping behind the shutters...
The students will be present at the heart of the set to present their work.
Wednesday, January 21, and Friday, January 23, between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
During a conference entitled “Décors & Corps - David Lynch - Le pourquoi du comment” (Sets & Bodies - David Lynch - The Whys and Wherefores), the students and their teachers will explain the challenges and context behind the creation of these “design” installations. Visuals of the different stages of the work, as well as the inspirations, will be projected.
Monday, January 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. - Cointreau Room - Free admission
