This French actor and film maker was born in Roanne in 1928. His passion for graphic art, music and the circus led him to be a book illustrator then a clown, and to appear on television and in cabaret. His talents as a graphic designer and a joker were revealed in tati's Mon Oncle, but his real induction into the cinema took place when he met Jean-Claude Carrière. He eventually wrote five feature-length screenplays. With Yoyo in 1965, he was in a purely burlesque mode, which evolved towards social satire by the end of the 60s (Pays de concagne). Since the 1970s he has concentrated on the circus, creating the Ecole Nationale du Cirque with Annie Fratellini.
