A director, scriptwriter, writer and actor, Skolimowski (1936) first studied ethnography at Warsaw University before joining the Lodz Film School. He co-wrote the script for Wajda's Innocent Sorcerers, as well as for Polanski's Knife in the Water. Considering cinema to be first and foremost a means of personal expression, Skolimowski ignored all dramatic logic to construct a completely subjective universe in which the anti-heros are in a permanent state of voyaging and doubt. "In this belated sentimental education, the hero of Walk-over can't make up his mind to cut himself off from the uncertainties and more or less dramatic anxieties and contradictions of youth, as if he worried that every choice was a definitive engagement" (G. Dupeyron).
