Exiting a long tunnel, which operates like a journey through time, Manuela lives in Barcelona, and Pedro Almodóvar's cinema, for the first time, changes city. This journey to the past brings out a series of women who have already been seen in his more “exuberant” films (prostitutes, nuns, transsexuals, etc.), but never have they been more like us. Almodóvar talks of the opening of his films as an “ocean of pain”, and the spectator is stunned as they follow Manuela's almost sleep-walking state. Almodóvar gives Cecilia Roth, a faithful friend and long-time co-worker, an unforgettable central role. All About My Mother is Almodóvar's greatest public success and won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
