"Melville is a God for me. I discovered him with Le Samouraï at the beginning of the 70s, when it came out in the commercial circuit in Hong Kong. This was the film that made Alain Delon a star in Asia. It was a real eye-opener for me. I was amazed by the novelty of his style, his technique, his restrain. Melville appeared to me to be a gentleman: his way of telling a story is always "cool", peaceful, philosophical... The Killer was deeply influenced by Melville, particularly his approach to characters. What I learned the most from Melville was the way he stages action, the momentum in the sequences, before the action explodes. There is always a feeling of danger hovering over the scenes" (J. Woo).
