Teorema (Theorem), as the name suggests, is based on a hypothesis which can be mathematically proved ad absurdam. Here is what I set: if a bourgeois family was visited by a young god, be it Dionysius or Jehovah, what would happen?” (Pasolini). With Theorem, Pasolini started a new poetic and moved towards the parable. Mixing sexuality and mysticism, this film won the grand prix of the International Catholic Organisation for Cinema and Audiovisual (OCIC), which caused a certain consternation in the Catholic audience. The film beautifully illustrates Pasolini's style, both sparse and mannerist, and it deals with a theme very dear to him, “balanced, ambiguously, between the a religious shiver and a sexual shiver” (Alberto Moravia).
