Angela is a journalist on local TV. She and her cameraman follow the night shift at a fire station. That night everything is calm until they receive a phone call from an old lady asking for help. They arrive at the address to discover the neighbours very worried. Terrifying screams have been heard coming from the old lady's flat. This report won't be routine... but Angela doesn't yet realise just how much!

"We were interested in looking at how the mass media create reality. The way in which 11 September 2001 was shown on television could have been seen as being fiction, like a Hollywood film. It was very disturbing. Our biggest influences come from series such as Cops and live reports from countries such as Iraq. The film was shot from beginning to end as if the events were happening before our very eyes... We are part of the Youtube generation and I think that this affects the way people make films and consume images" (J. Balagueró). The influence of George Romero and zombie films is also clear in [REC]: "We have at the same time to respect tradition and also to provide something new. We looked into disease and infection. This is something that has never been seen in other films" (P. Plaza).
