In Lozère, Ardèche and Haute-Loire, we see several families from the rural world. Young farmers are settling in these upland regions. At the same time, many farms are being turned into second homes. Problems in the passing on property are impacting everyday life.

The second part of his rural trilogy, Le Quotidien opens with Louis Bresse, a farmer who has died since Raymond Depardon introduced him to us in L'Approche. He then finds some of the same people a few years older “(...) in a powerful natural environment, which is beautiful but austere, and which has forged their character” (Magalie Jauffret; L'Humanité). Depardon changes from his usual method and triggers interviews: “We must give way for the shy, the silent. (...). We must also film those who are perhaps a little less sympathetic, more suspicious, the elderly, very old people who have a real personality, a real nature or young people full of energy and determined to do their jobs without neo-rural ideologies.”
