After Jules Verne, Karel Zeman took inspiration from the adventures of Sindbad the sailor to make five short films brought together in one feature-length film. With his painstakingly detailed work (perfectly combining cut-out paper, string puppets and wooden elements) Zeman brings back to life a tale from classical mythology, tinged with unique modernity and vitality. Each image is an evocation of the beauty and refinement of a Persian miniature. Karel Zeman uses several of his favourite animals in Sinbad, including the enormous sharp-toothed fish seen in Vynález zkázy (The Fabulous World of Jules Verne). From the heart of jungle to the depths beneath the seas, a marvellous and magical world is born before our eyes.
