On l'appelait le Roi Laid (Petite suite turque en Güney majeur)
Claude Weisz
Once upon a time, there was a man from the South (Güney means South in Turkish). Son of a peasant, he went off to Istanbul and twelve years later became king. Or at least one of the most popular Turkish film heroes, that of a Robin Hood: the violent yet generous pistolero. He was nicknamed "the ugly king", and the popularity of his screen persona allowed him to act publicly as a revolutionary fighting for Kurdish rights. This film tells his story and that of his country, combining fiction and reality, moving between documentary and dramatic form.
