A documentary on the Los Angeles “murals”, that is to say the paintings on the walls of the city. Who paints them? Who pays for them? Who looks at them? How does this city, which is the capital of cinema, reveals itself without special effects – with its inhabitants – through the whispering walls? The Californian walls talk to a French woman who discovers them.

Agnès Varda continued accompanying Jacques Demy who once again had a film in a Hollywood studio. She was fascinated by the city and its murals. No library, no museum pays attention this street art and that is why Varda began by looking for them. She registered two hundred of them but found virtually no painters behind the works. She was interested in the gesture: the question of abolishing the money and the institutions between the artist and their audience.
