Los abrazos rotos (Broken Embraces), Almodóvar's most expensive film, is a flamboyant melodrama and a reflection on artistic work. There is a tension between the past and the present, like in Almodóvar's other films, but this time with at its heart a play on his own creations. Girls and Suitcases, Harry Caine's unfinished film, is a sort of remake of Women on the Verge of a nervous Breakdown, and the film is a sort of journey into the filmmaker's work. This film for film buffs, is a sort of manifest: choosing to make Harry Caine blind means talking about cinema as an inner world of vital importance.
