In The Green Room, an adaptation of two Henry James short stories, François Truffaut embodies and shares with us his vision of life, nourished by the memory of those who have died. A film bordering on mysticism, suffused with candles and mist, it stands alone in the director's career and films. "Day for Night was about paying tribute to the work of filmmakers. Here, I'm paying tribute to all those whose lives have left a deep trace. It's a bit like a declaration of love. It's not depressing or morbid or sad. It's the idea that the power of memory, devotion and obsession is stronger than current events. It can't be influenced. To not grow apart from the things and the people we no longer talk about, if we love them. To continue to live with them. I refuse to forget." (F. Truffaut)
