Pedro Almodóvar
Kika, an eternally optimistic make-up artist, lives with Ramón, a man obsessed with his mother's suicide, and Juana, a house cleaner with a moustache. Paul, Juana's brother, rapes Juana while a peeping tom watches on. Andrea, who fronts a sordid reality show arrives on the scene to record a programme. But where is Nicholas, the author of a successful noir fiction author who lives in the flat above Kika and Ramón?

With Kika, Pedro Almodóvar seems to mix, with evident pleasure, and from one scene to another, very different genres (there is slapstick, crime, satire, etc.). What seems to obsess him is managing to combine with his unique style a story about voyeurism and fetishism strongly influenced by films of the past (Hitchcock, Michael Powell's Peeping Tom, or Joseph Losey's The Prowler). Kika provides Almodóvar with an opportunity to get his teeth directly into television, through the character of Andrea, played by Victoria Abril, dressed as a news-soldier in a costume designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier.
